Bulletin: All Driver Education Providers

PURPOSE 
To inform the Drivers’ Education community about nine additional languages available for the 
knowledge test to obtain a learner’s permit. 

SUMMARY
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) recently added 
nine additional translations of the knowledge test (bolded in list below) -- bringing the total to 17 
different languages. The knowledge test will be offered in:

  • English (plain language)
  • Spanish
  • American Sign Language*
  • Amharic (Afro-Asiatic language)
  • Arabic
  • Farsi
  • French
  • Hindi
  • Korean
  • Nepali
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Tagalog
  • Traditional Chinese
  • Urdu
  • Vietnamese
  • Yoruba (West Africa)

Please inform your students that MVA offers the knowledge test in languages other than English. 
Individuals select their preferred language at the beginning of the knowledge test.
