License Plates

Maryland license plates identify your vehicle and show that it is properly registered with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA).

This page explains how to get plates, use them correctly, and what to do if something changes.

Plates may be issued:

To transfer plates:

  • You must remain the registered owner
  • The new vehicle must be titled and registered in your name
