A Simple 1-2-3 Guide for New Residents

We're glad you're here. If you've recently moved to Maryland, this guide explains what you need to do, what documents to bring, and how to stay in compliance with Maryland law.

Get Ready Before You Visit the MVA 

Before scheduling an appointment, gather your information and documents. Doing this first helps your visit go smoothly. At your appointment, you can take care of your driver’s license and your vehicle title and registration in one visit.

What You Should Do
  1. Visit MyMVA and make a 'New to Maryland' Appointment. Select which type of appointment you will need:
    1. Driver's License Only
    2. Driver's License, Title, and Registration
    3. Title & Registration Only
    4. Out of Country
    5. Returning to Maryland
  2. Fill out the Pre-Application to help you gather the information and documents you will need to bring to your appointment
    1. Visit Get a Maryland Driver's License or ID Card page to see what documents are required.
    2. Visit Title & Register your Vehicle in Maryland page to see what documents are required.
  3. Attend your MVA Appointment and be on your way!
