Request a Duplicate Vehicle Title

What is a duplicate title?

A duplicate title is a legal replacement for your original vehicle title and has the same authority.

Reasons to request a duplicate title

You may need a duplicate title if:

  • Your title was lost or stolen
  • Your title was damaged or unreadable
  • You never received your title
  • Your title was destroyed (for example, by fire or flood)

When to request a title correction instead

If you have your vehicle title but your name, address, or vehicle information is incorrect, do not request a duplicate title. Instead, follow the process to correct a title.

What you need to request a duplicate title

You may be required to provide:

  • A completed Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title
  • Valid identification
  • Proof of lien release, if a lien was previously recorded
  • Payment of the required fee

If a lien is still listed on the title, the lienholder may need to be involved before a duplicate title can be issued.

Fees

A fee applies for duplicate title requests. Fees are set by regulation and subject to change.

What to expect after you apply

Once your request is approved, the duplicate title will be mailed to the address on record. Delivery times may vary.
