Payment Assistance Policies
Purpose
To provide the industry with a clearer definition of what “Payment Assistance” entails as it relates to tracking this data for the Annual Report.
Summary
Driving schools offering the certified driver education program are required by regulations to maintain a payment or assistance policy that permits students with verifiable financial hardships to participate in the driver education program. Below is a listing of items that, in the view of the Administration, are examples of payment assistance options.
Examples:
- Payment schedules that spread the cost over time to improve affordability.
- Financing plans
- Reduced cost or “discount” plans.
- Schools may develop “sliding scale” payment plans based on customer income.
- The acceptance of payments from third party payors
- Participation in grant programs and/or acceptance of payments from grant programs.
The examples above are not intended to be all-inclusive. Schools may implement the payment or assistance options that work best for their business model while still providing opportunities for students with verifiable financial hardships to participate in the program.
