18-Week Extension Request and Training Vehicle Age Survey

Bulletin | February 13, 2026

Updated:

Date: September 12th, 2024
Bulletin: All Driving School Owners and Operators
From: Business Licensing and Compliance Division

Purpose
This bulletin introduces a new form for use when the driver education program is extended beyond the 18-week requirement, and a survey on the industry views of vehicle age.

Summary
New Request to Extend Driver Education Beyond 18-Weeks Form

  • The Motor Vehicle Administration has developed a new form to be utilized when
completion of the driver education program is extended beyond the 18-week limit
imposed by regulation. There are only two circumstances under which this extension may
occur. First, the student requests the extension. Second, the student fails to contact the
school to schedule training. This new form addresses both possibilities. At the top, the
student may sign signaling the desire to extend their individual training beyond the 18
weeks. At the bottom, the school will track attempts to reach out to students that have
failed to make contact for the scheduling of training. Link to new form is below:

Training Vehicle Age Survey

  • Below is the link to a survey currently being conducted by the Administration to solicit
driving school owner input regarding a reasonable age for retiring driver education
training vehicles. The survey consists of 6 simple questions, and each school may submit
only one response. This survey must be completed by Sunday, October 13th, 2024.The link to the survey is: https://forms.office.com/g/FtCxiqTAqw
