Procedure for Tag Return of recalled US Navy Plates
Updated:
Date: December 6, 2023
Bulletin: All Dealers and Title Service Agencies
From: Vehicle Services and Business Licensing and Compliance
The United States Navy has recalled the previous logo for this branch of the military on
vehicle plates. As a courtesy to our customers the administration has reissued plates for
customers who have plates that have the discontinued logo. The back office will reissue the
plates and registrations as well as mail the remade plates. The customer will receive the new
plate with the same number, a new registration card and a letter explaining why they are
receiving a new plate with a return envelope to mail their old plates. It is required for all
customers who have the plates with the old logo to return their plate once they receive the
new plate to the administration. Although a return envelope will be provided, there will be
customers who will physically turn these plates in, please follow the instructions below to
cancel the previous plate.
Currently, we do not have a cancellation reason in the Tag Return transaction that is
appropriate to accommodate the return of remade/reissued plates without cancelling the
previous plate. Please physically return these plates to the MVA and do not process the return
via ERT.
The plates that will be affected are below as well as the images of the old and new logo:
- United States Navy plate
- United States Navy motorcycle plate
- US Navy Retired plate
- US Navy Retired motorcycle plate
- United States Navy Veteran plate
- United States Navy Veteran motorcycle plate
- Proudly She Served United States Navy plate
