What are charitable organization license plates?

Maryland offers charitable organization license plates, also called organizational license plates, for vehicles registered in the state. These specialty plates let you show support for an approved charitable or nonprofit organization while you drive.

Plate types

Depending on the organization, plates may be available with or without a logo. Logo plates are issued when approved artwork is available.

Who can get a organizational license plate

You may be eligible if:

• Your vehicle is registered in Maryland
• The vehicle is for personal (non-commercial) use
• The organization you select is approved by the MVA

Commercial or business vehicles are not eligible unless specifically authorized.

How to get a organizational license plate

Step 1: Choose an approved organization

Select an organization from the MVA’s approved list.

Step 2: Complete the application

You must complete the required organizational license plate application and provide your vehicle information. Applications for organizational plates can be obtained from the organization.

Step 3: Pay the required fees

Plate fees apply and may include:

• A one-time plate issuance fee
• An annual organizational contribution, if required

Fees are set by regulation and may change.

Step 4: Receive and display your plates

Once approved, your plates will be issued or mailed to you. Display plates and registration stickers as instructed

Renewing your organizational plates

Charitable organization license plates must be renewed with your vehicle registration. Any required organizational contribution must also be paid at renewal.

Failure to renew may result in loss of the plate.

Replacing lost or damaged plates

If your charitable organization plate is lost, stolen, or damaged:

• Notify the MVA
• Request replacement plates
• Pay the required replacement fee
