The purpose of this bulletin is to announce an additional option for the administration of the Apprentice permit testing procedure. This process is effective March 23, 2023.

Procedure
A candidate for the Apprentice Permit will now have the option for the entire testing process to be completed at the candidate’s employing school. This process will be administered by an MDOT MVA’s Compliance Inspector. The Apprentice tests will be scheduled to take place in the following order.

  • Knowledge Test
  • Simulated classroom presentation
  • Behind-the–Wheel driving audit
  • Simulated Behind-the-Wheel lesson

Candidates must first pass the written test to move on to the remaining testing. If a candidate fails the written test, all testing will cease and will be rescheduled for another date. Candidates must wait at least 7 days before being retested.
