MDOT Motor Vehicle Administration

Request for Extension of Training Vehicle Service Life

Bulletin |

Updated:

Bulletin: All Driving School Owners and Operators
From: Business Licensing and Compliance Division

The Motor Vehicle Administration received a request to extend the serviceable life of driver education training vehicles for eight model years, that was allowed during the COVID period and extended until the end of 2022. COMAR 11.23.02.33F requires that a training vehicle may not be more than 7 model years old.

After careful consideration, the Administration determined that there are not sufficient extenuating circumstances at this time to allow driver education training vehicles beyond what COMAR currently allows. As we perform our routine regulation review process, we will review this requirement to determine if seven years continues to be the appropriate timeline for vehicle replacement.
